Patrick Kelly

Patrick Kelly was a great friend of mine.  He and I first met running a PFT from the Staff NCO barracks back to mainside.  He was running faster than me, so I told him not to wear himself out running against me.  He said he wouldn’t...and didn’t.  He came in way ahead of me.  Like me, he was a 300 PFTer, only Kelly was much better and stronger than I was.  He could do 100 one-arm pushups on either arm.  That was incredible.  He and I and Charles Blount used to get together on occasion and do something.  He used to call me “Little Buddy.”  Kelly was one of the nicest and most helpful guys I ever knew.  But, he was strong too even though he didn’t look strong.  People used to pick on him all the time for absolutely no reason.  And, well, they always got hurt.  Their fault, not his.  Anyway, I last saw Kelly at Camp Pendleton.  He was being discharged on a medical despite the fact that he was the only one in his Battalion who could max the PFT.  That was crazy.  Why discharge a guy who’s more physically fit than anyone else?

I believe Patrick had a sister in New York or London.  I can’t remember, but I believe he was affiliated with both places.  I haven’t heard from him since then.  If you know where he is, please contact us at admin@parrisislandmarines.com
